Mold growth and the permanent solution

When it comes to indoor mold growth and poor air quality, attention to detail is the key. It’s not enough to just simply clean it, dry it, or cut it out and replace it. You absolutely must investigate the cause and fix that first. Sounds easy right? Well I won’t lie to you, sometimes it is easy but most of the time it’s a combination of issues causing this type of damage. Mold needs 3 things to grow; water, air and a food source. Just like the fire triangle if you remove one of the three elements, you put out the fire. We can’t remove the air and almost everything in your home is a food source, so we concentrate on the water. According to the EPA, 60% relative humidity or higher inside your home can be enough moisture to allow mold spores to actively feed. They will feed on any porous material in your home.

Home Owner Insurance Tips for Water Damage Coverage

Conditions NORMALLY COVERED by an insurance policy.

  • Tornadoes
  • Burst water pipes and water heaters
  • Sudden or accidental overflow of a toilet, tub, or sink
  • Sewer backup from drains and sump pumps (there may be a relatively low policy limit)

Conditions PROBABLY NOT COVERED by current policies:

  • Ground water flooding (water table rises and floods basement/crawl space from below)
  • Slow, dripping leaks
  • Overflowing streams or rivers
